Things to avoid!
When considering a solar installation at your home, there are a plethora of things to consider and this can sometimes become overwhelming. There are plenty of great products on the market right now. Sifting through all this information can be very time consuming, and can also be very misleading if you are relying on the internet reviews to guide you. A few traps to avoid might help with your decision.
Door to door sales
We often come across proposals that have come from a door knocking salesperson which are obviously way overpriced with sometimes unnamed products, or not very well known, claiming to be “German”. These companies are usually not very well established and looking for a quick sale and are usually quite pushy in their approach, asking for a signature and deposit on the day. Please be wary of signing anything, and always get another quote or 2 to compare. Remember that there is a 10 day cooling off period if you do sign anything under pressure and want to take a bit more time to do some research before committing.
Unknown brands
We have seen many proposals that have unknown products specified. There are many different brands to choose from, and, just like choosing a car, many options and prices to consider. What might be right for one person, may not be right for another. Same as a 2 wheel drive car might be suitable for a city car, but you wouldn’t take that car driving on the beach. Having the right details will help in your decision.
Unrealistic pay back figures
Most proposals come with an expected payback figure, or Return On Investment (ROI). Of course, to make it look more inviting to the prospective buyer, these figures tend to be inflated and often wildly inaccurate. The world is ever changing, and these software generated ROIs don’t factor in what might happen in the future. Take these figures as a very rough guide only to avoid disappointment in your investment.
