Developments in home battery storage
The last few years have seen some very interesting developments in the area of home battery storage within the renewable energy sector. Some manufacturers raced to market their products ahead of competitors, but in their haste, they released products that didn’t live up to their promised outcomes. As real-world results became apparent, many of these products began to fail, falling short of expectations.
Some of the larger manufacturers, such as Tesla and LG Chem, managed to sustain their operations and develop more advanced products for the market. LG Chem recently issued a nationwide recall for many of their products. To their credit, they have diligently followed up on these products and taken steps to rectify the issues. Whether through replacing the faulty product or implementing a simple firmware upgrade to address the issue, they managed to maintain a reasonable presence in the market and even released new products during this period. Yet another compelling reason to opt for products from reputable brands.
One of the most well-known solar inverter manufacturers in the world is Fronius. An Austrian company, Fronius has been a market leader for almost two decades. Recently, Fronius partnered with BYD to thoroughly test their compatibility. The two companies are working together to support their respective products. Their support team knows these products inside out and can assist with either product when installed together as a package.
Installing a home battery can be a costly exercise, so it's crucial to choose a product from a company that will be around in the future and will continue to support their product. Whilst we love the POWERPLUS+ batteries for stand-alone battery systems, BYD and Fronius will be our choice for hybrid systems, along with SolarEdge and Sungrow.
